About Us
The Texas Ski Rangers is a chapter of the Rocky
Mountain Region of the National Brotherhood of
Skiers, Inc. (NBS). The NBS is a non-profit
organization whose primary goal is to identify,
select and finance training of a potential Olympic
caliber African-American athlete capable of winning
a spot on the United States Ski team.
The Texas Ski Rangers, Inc. was founded in 1984 to
encourage and offer opportunities for
African-Americans to participate in winter sports
and activities. We are one of five predominately
black ski clubs in Texas. As the popularity of
skiing among African-Americans has exploded, so has
the membership of the Texas Ski Rangers, Inc. as
well as other Texas ski clubs. The club also
actively strives to provide area youth the
opportunity to participate in various winter sports
and to further develop their skills and interest to
the level of world class competitors. The focus of
both the NBS and the TSR is to:
-
Encourage minority participation in winter
sports and other seasonal activities.
-
Teach and further develop skills in the sport of
skiing for youth and adult members.
-
Provide a comfortable atmosphere for social and
recreational interaction among the members,
other participants and organizations
The
Texas Ski Rangers sponsors activities all
year with its primary concentration on winter
activities and ski trips. The Club is dedicated to
enhancing the skills and enjoyment of members
involved in the sport. In addition to winter
activities, we also have several non-sporting events
which include the annual Leather and Lace Dance,
fashion shows, family picnics, lake-outings and
joint participation in social events with other area
organizations, just to name a few.
Every season thousands of people try skiing for the
first time. Skiing with Texas Ski Rangers makes for
a memorable and enjoyable experience. Since many of
the trips and activities are jointly planned with
other NBS clubs, meeting other skiers from around
the country only adds to the experience.
